Guelph and area seeing more people walk away from pre-sale home deposits

Despite the loss of sizable down payments, and other potential consequences, more people are walking away from pre-sale home purchase agreements in recent months.

It’s a growing trend predominantly seen in the Toronto area, but Guelph and Wellington County aren’t immune.

“I’m not getting just calls from Guelph … but in all of the communities that surround us,” said Mike McCluskey, a litigation attorney for McKenzie Lake Lawyers LLP and a member of the Guelph & District Home Builders Association (GDHBA) board of directors.

“And a lot of times those claims are dictated by what may be happening in the

Fraser Valley real estate: Buyer’s market? Seller’s market? Or just confusing?

Extremely challenging — that’s how some Fraser Valley realtors are summing up last year’s housing market, which saw the lowest annual sales in a decade.

“Definitely, we had a lower inventory compared to the previous two years,” said Fraser Valley Real Estate Board chair Narinder Bains.

According to the FVRB, the region ended the year with 14,713 sales, a decline of four per cent over 2022 and 23 per cent below the 10-year average. New listings in the Fraser Valley were also at a 10-year low, at 29,610, eight per cent below the 10-year average.

NB news: Moncton real estate a seller’s market

Natalie Davison, a Moncton-based realtor, says the inventory is at the lowest point she’s had in the past 12 months.

Financial experts are predicting interest rates will begin to drop later in the year and Davison said that should kick-start the market.

“Lower interest rates are going to mean an increased demand and I see just more of a seller’s market, low inventory in Greater Moncton this year,” said Davison.

Mike Power, the incoming chair of the New Brunswick Real Estate Board, said overall volumes were a little lower than last year, but above historical sales.

Power believes it should

Willie Mullins puts everything into once in a lifetime chance to land UK trainers’ crown

Mullins will have his usual stacked team for the Punchestown Festival in a fortnight, with two-time Gold Cup winner Galopin Des Champs, Champion Hurdle hero State Man and Lossiemouth set to take their chance, but his eyes are also being drawn to Britain.

Mullins is favorite to secure the coveted title after a sensational Aintree haul last week – headlined by National success for I Am Maximus – and he intends to leave no stone unturned in his historic bid to emulate the late Vincent O’Brien, who famously prevailed in 1952-’53 and ’53-’54.

“A lot of people across the water
